NEW FAV

Garance is still my fav but T Magazine, The New York Times' Style Mazagine,  is my new second fav. It's like Sunday mag, which let's face it is the only reason we all buy the Sunday paper, on steroids. Sunday mag has it's 'going up, going down' which is code for 'you're cool if you like this, you're not cool anymore if you still like this' but T Magazine has EVERYTHING ELSE and then some. Even if you can't read, your eyes will enjoy a visual FREAKOUT on the rad art and photography...

and if you CAN read, you'll find yourself lost in a design, art, fashion, beauty and culture fest. Like a rundown on the Plastiki, a boat made of 12,000 bottles (WHICH by the way is the number of plastic bottles consumed every 8 seconds in the US - ew)sailing from the US to Sydney. T Magazine then rewards you for caring by giving you a 'profile in style' of the Plastikis' expedition leader and God Of Cool, David De Rothschild.

On that note the Plastiki site has some pretty sweet graphics of its own (but this is like a whole new blog post)...

Anyway moving on - for total inspiration to get creative, cultured or just 100% engrossed for five minutes I reccomend getting your daily T Magzine fix. YEOW - love.it.heaps.

SWEET SWEET SELF INDULGENCE

Every cloud (being sick) has a silver lining (a day to yourself). I am having a self indulgent sick day (legitimate too!) and have literally spent all day doing things that are fun (disease aside) ...like eating peanut butter off the spoon, rolling around in my fav HUFFER trackies

watching Gossip Girl re-runs, re-living my weekend through photos of Saturday night

and stalking my all time favourite by far blog by Garance Dore and lusting over all of her amazing photography and enviable, creative, Parisian lifestyle

above: image from a Garance post 30 March p.s. that's not her (and I just noticed she has posted a new one just now - YUS)...

El-crappo, back to reality tomorrow.

PASTEL POWER

I am a woman obsessed... with pastels. I know, I know - pastels have the potential to be flimsy and floaty and lack any real rad-factor. Not so if you take a look around at the moment. It's like fluffy mounds of candy floss sprinkled with foxy bad girl accessories and 'I don't care what you think' hair and makeup. And I do mean it's everywhere - from the expensy international labels

Charlotte Ronson; Jen Kao; Chloe Spring 2010 collections, style.com

to the slightly less expensy, but so much more amazing, top NZ and Aussie labels

Madame Hawk; Stolen Girlfriends Club menswear; Lonely Hearts Club

Karla Spetic 'Maris Sweater Dress', $436 AUD; Stretsis  'Peony Chambray Mini Skirt', $270 AUD; Stretsis ' Bubble Blue Daisey Vulgary' Sunnies, $536 AUD

Lonely Hearts Club 'Pearl Dress', $253 AUD; Ruby 'Juliet Dress', $274 AUD; Kate Sylvester 'Franka Dress'

Stolen Girlfriends Club 'Grampa Cardigan'

Romance Was Born shorts

It was love at first sight last year when 'Romance Was Born' used it to dreamy, costume-like affect...

But you can also make the most pastels in a less obvious way - the chainstores all have something to add...

Supre Cropped t-shirt $23.42; Dotti 'Quilt 2 way bag' $39.99; OPI nail polish

American Apparel 'Amanda shoes', $80 US

Kit Cosmetics 'whiter shades of pail' nail polish, $15.95 US

American Apparel 'four way stretch zip' pants, $78 US

American Apparel 'Cotton Spandex dress', $36 US

I love it and I want everything from Lonely Hearts - now.

What's better than being able to eat carbs and sugary treats after three weeks of detox? Nothing. But what's the next best thing? A site that lets you design your own shoes, then makes them, then SENDS THEM TO YOU - Shoes of Prey! I can't breathe properly when I think about it. The site is SO simple and the shoes are reasonably priced given that the designer is...you. Fanny Adams for Shoes of Prey (similar to Alexa Chung for Madewell - but imaginary). I haven't found a flaw in this yet but it's not too good to be true, it's just really really good. The gallery on site is like chocolate to a fat kid - so evil but so delicious...

L to R: Violet hair and shiny purple snake skin flats by Julie K., $250; Minnie by Bec M., $390; black white and orange snake skin flats by Lenor D., $250; stamped black patent leather gladiator heels by Mike K,$390.

And there isn't any harm in 'taking inspiration' from (read 'copying') the top designers, and don't be fooled by the low heels in the model shoe, you can pick a heel up to 4.5 inches high...

Alexander McQueen Python Peep Toe Pumps £892.76; Shoes of Prey brown black and gold snake skin pumps, $325 NZD.

Oscar De La Renta Peep Toe Pumps, £562.50; Shoes of Prey pink and silver leather peep toe pumps, $350 NZD

Top Shop Lauren strappy platform sandal, £60. Shoes of prey gladiator pumps, $350 NZD.

And if celeb stalking is more your thing then just take what you see and go for it...

Mary-Kate Olsen; Shoes of prey gladiator pumps, $350 NZD.

Or if you have invested in that lusty dress from Maximillia then you obviously need the perfect wedges to go with it...

Karla Spetic Lux dress $630 AUD; Shoes of Prey suede wedges $325 AUD

If you have a spare five minutes that you don't mind turning into four hours then this is your site - beautiful , creative, easy to use, and genius (NZ currency and amazing returns policy for example). My one tip would be to check the materials you are choosing against their gallery pics. The gallery images give you a much better idea of how that fabric (snake skin, fish skin, hair, suede) will look in reality.

I'm holding out for an ankle boots section. Yum.

HOLDING ON TO WHATS GOLDEN...

I hate to be the sad guy but I do feel the lovely golden days of late becoming shorter, colder and darker, bit by bit. Although I love the snow, cosy coats, Wanaka, mulled wine, Friday nights hiding in bars and wrapping up warm of winter I wanted to summer-up my day a bit with a few epic summer shots (with an epic little tune to accompany them)...
